2008/2009 Dates For Your DI Calendar  |  General Program Season
Working In Team Practices/Meetings - How?

The Destination ImagiNation Team Challenges and program materials are released annually on September 1.

A typical season runs approximately 12 weeks, with most teams organizing between September and October. Local Regions and Affiliates typically hold Team Manager Trainings in September, October, and November.

Some Regions and Affiliates begin preparation for Tournaments in January with Appraiser Training and their Regional Tournaments, but others hold their trainings and Tournaments through April.

The annual Destination ImagiNation, Inc. sponsored Global Finals event is held in late May. Preliminary Global Finals information is posted in Rules of the Road, with specific information available at Affiliate Tournaments.

Depending on your team’s advancement through Tournaments, your season may continue through May. But whether you advance to Global Finals or not, your team should continue its season through a celebration of its accomplishments of the “DI year,” and if the team wishes, continue to meet, build teamwork, practice Creative Problem Solving, do Instant Challenges, take field trips and continuing education workshops together, and just have FUN!

Global Finals, held every year in May, is the highlight of the year for many kids. Teams from all over the world gather to compete in a 3-day tournament.

How Does Delano Work Team Practices Into A Busy Week?

Our Delano teams generally meet one day per week, on the day, at the time, and the location decided on by the Team Mangers and the team. How some of our teams do this:

Example:  One coach's schedule:

This team practices on Monday's after school. All of the kids either ride the bus home with his daughter or get a ride to the home where they'll practice from school.

As soon as they arrive at the home, the kids have a snack and do their homework. (Approx 30 min.) Then they get to work on DI and end their day around 5:45 pm. At that time, one or two parents pick up the kids and get them all home (ridesharing).

Each set of Team Mangers works with their teams to create a schedule that works for the team. The day and time of your team's practice will be determined by the Team Manager and the Team Members. Your team may choose to meet one or two times per week...with more frequent meetings as tournament time draws closer.
