How DI has impacted my family

My oldest daughter Alexandra - going into 6th grade this year, has been involved with DI for 4 years, going on five. She started when she was in 2nd grade (non-competing level) and has gone on to compete at the "global" level
for the last 2 years. In May 2005 her team took 2nd place in the world, in their challenge, competing at the global competition in Tennessee. (DizzyDerby Details) (Award Photo)

Within the last five years, Alex has: Traveled to Tennessee with her team, met kids from all over the country, developed a great deal of confidence, self-discipline, awesome "real-life" skills, and has had the most amazing experiences - including traveling to other states, learning to weld, and going white-water-rafting with her team. I never would have imagined she would be doing so much, and so successfully, at such a young age. In addition, she has gained quality leadership skills, has successfully collaborated with a variety of different personalities for 4 consecutive years, has learned a variety of techniques for determining original solutions to difficult challenges, and has spent "priceless" time with her father - one of her Team's Managers.

Yup! That's right....Her father, Jeff, became one of her Team Managers, kind of by accident, and has
since taken on a second team -Team WOW!- Our younger daughter's team.

Jeff too, has been surprised by the passion he has gained for mentoring these kids and helping them achieve their goals. Jeff has truly become the "Poster-Child" for Team Managers and loves the job!

This program has opened our family's eyes to the amazing possibilities available to our children and it has given both of our children a focus with real purpose.

Today, our little family of 4, is on a mission to engage kids within our community. We want to get the word out about DI because we know that DI will have a positive impact on your child's self-esteem and ability to deal with challenging situations as well as allow them opportunities to meet new friends, learn new life-skills, and to set goals that can be achieved.
